Hej! I'm Mara Pistachio.

I've been doing drag since 2019. Before I got into drag myself, I loved going to local drag shows and supported the performers. Since our local Saskatoon (Canada) drag scene is very supportive and welcomes many new performers, I took the jump and decided I would try it out myself. I started out with little talent for drag and makeup, but I was passionate and with practice, I got better and better at make up (with still a long way to go...). I started to push myself and to push the definition of drag. My creativity and my art skills bloomed over time and they are continuing to grow. I now make my own fantasy accessories, as well as some of my own costumes and jewelry. I create everything from my imagination, with inspirations from fantasy, anime, and cosplay.

I'm a trilingual drag fairy. I speak French (native speaker, fluent), English (fluent) and Swedish (native speaker, advanced level). I am of French, Swedish and Finnish ancestry (my grandmother's family spoke Meänkieli, a Finnish dialect spoken in Northern Sweden - but the language was not passed on in the family due to xenophobia, discrimination and shame). I was born and raised in France until I moved to Canada when I was 8 years old.

I teach French and Swedish lessons. I'm not a professional language teacher (I'm actually a graduand student in Microbiology and Immunology and will soon be a graduate student in Biochemistry, Microbiology, and Immunology at the University of Saskatchewan). However, I do teach French, Swedish, and English grammar lessons to friends (who really enjoy my lessons). I'm also learning beginner Japanese lessons from one of my friends. Over the years, I tried learning Italian, Spanish and Finnish - but I really want to stick to the Japanese so I can visit Japan with a bit more ease.

Drag is "taking over the world" and become more and more popular; drag performers are now releasing songs, having their own shows, and so on. I decided to combine my love of languages and cultures with my passion for drag; I thought, why not teach French and Swedish lessons in drag? Doesn't it become even more fun to learn a language when you have a drag performer teaching you?!

I am currently working on making my first YouTube videos, where I will teach language lessons while in drag; you will likely also see drag makeup tutorials, drag closet tours, and DIY fantasy tutorials on my channel. Take a look at my language lessons articles where you can download the lesson presentations I made (they include translations in English, pronunciation tips and extra notes such as grammar rules and so on).
